Lund University School of Economics and Management in Sweden has decided to invest in digital screens for internal communication. The university environment is busy, diverse and dynamic, with students, teachers and visiting lecturers from all over the world. Every day, there may be over a thousand visitors on the site, making effective communication a demanding task.

Why are you investing in digital screens for internal communication?
Digital information screens are an effective way for us to reach out to our students. There are over a thousand students on our premises every day and there are courses and guest lectures all day long. In this dynamic environment, we need a fast, effective communication channel.

The screens are located where people gather, such as study areas, corridors, the reception area and the café. Every time students are in these places, they can find out about current events and get reminders of future activities.

Can you describe your information flow?
Our communications team and careers centre update the screens. And the students’ union can publish all its events.

We use ready-made templates to create a uniform profile and show clearly who is publishing the content. As our target group is students, the information is primarily about current seminars and reminders to apply for internships, exchange student places and master’s programmes, for example. Part of the screen area shows current lectures and where they are being held. This information is retrieved automatically from our timetabling system.

To ensure that the screen content is always up to date, we set start and end dates for all information that is displayed.

What is important to you when choosing a partner?
We value good support so we can get help quickly and easily. It’s also beneficial to work in a user-friendly CMS system with templates designed to our profile. The screens are also monitored 24/7, which gives us peace of mind. As the screens perform an important function in our internal communications, we value a user-friendly, well-functioning system with no faults. 

What advice would you give to a company wanting to invest in digital information screens?
Digital screens are a modern communication channel that makes a nice impression. But the most important thing is to have a clear purpose for your investment.  It’s a good idea to draw up a communication plan that answers questions like: who is responsible for updates? What type of information will be displayed? How often should updates take place? It’s important that the information displayed is always up to date so that the screens keep attracting attention.
